About East Side PDF  | Print |  E-mail

In 1969, legend has it that Roger Bunton and Don Lutz started the state's first high school lacrosse team at L'Anse Creuse High School as a way to keep football players in shape during the off-season. Thanks to these great coaches, the "East Side" is the birthplace of youth lacrosse in Michigan.

With lacrosse being recognized as the fastest growing sport in the country in 2005, credit is due to all of the coaches, schools, and parents that made an investment in this great game.

At East Side Lacrosse, we recognize the need for good instruction to not only advance the growth of the game but to improve the level of play in our schools. With a focus on the East Side, we are looking to give back to the sport that taught us some excellent life lessons and gave us a lot of great memories.

In 1989, we played our senior year of high school lacrosse and put DeLaSalle on the map among the still dominant west side teams. We are thankful for all of our past coaches who passed down their love of the game to us - most notably our past high school coach, Mike Jolly, who was inducted into the MI Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Ken Rymisiewski, founder of Detroit Lacrosse Co., who was our JV assistant coach.

In 2009, we found ourselves offering the best instruction and playing opportunities for aspiring Macomb County lacrosse players – we know this because we have heard from parents and players who now enjoy successful high school careers or play Division 1 college lacrosse. Our Lacrosse instruction and leagues are hosted by players, coaches, and referees with playing and coaching experience at the grade school, middle school, high school, and Division 1 College lacrosse level.

In the next 20 years we hope to look back on the great success stories of our East Side player alumni both on and off the field.
